The Xbox application allows you to access your console when you are away from home. That is how

Brenda Stolyar/Digital TrendsMicrosoft’s exclusive Xbox smartphone app is an excellent way for players to stay engaged with their game friends while on the move. Like the Sony PlayStation application, the Xbox app allows users to buy games, share content, view their achievements and send updates to their followers on Xbox Live. It also provides additional tools to view achievements, control movie playback and access social elements such as profiles and messages, all of which is much more convenient than logging into your console or PC to do the same.

All it takes to get complete control over your Xbox experience is a little patience. The process to link your devices now is easier than ever, so read our quick guide on how to connect your smartphone to an Xbox One on Android and iOS.

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE XBOX APP

Before downloading the Xbox application for iOS or Android, you will want to update your smartphone or tablet to the latest version of your respective operating system. IOS users need version 9.0 or higher to run the application. Microsoft recommends that Android users have version 4.1 or higher. Once updated, go to iTunes or Google Play Store and enter “Xbox” in the search field to locate the application.

Touch the Install button to start downloading the application on your smartphone or tablet, and launch it once it is installed. Then sign in to your Xbox account when prompted.

STEP 2: CONNECT TO YOUR NETWORK

To synchronize your Xbox One and your phone, both devices must be online. To check your network on the Xbox One, go to the Settings menu, then select Network and finally “Network Settings”

On your smartphone, go to the network / Wi-Fi menu in the preferences or settings of your device. If your Xbox One is not connected, select Configure wireless network, choose the network you want and enter the corresponding password if requested. Both devices must be within the range of your network to connect.

Certain features, like using your phone as a remote control for the Xbox One, require both your Xbox One and phone to be connected on the same Wi-Fi network. Others, such as checking your achievements and activity feed, work as long as both devices are on an internet connection.

STEP 3: SYNC YOUR SMARTPHONE WITH YOUR CONSOLE

While using the Xbox application, touch the three horizontal bars in the upper left corner to open the main menu. From here, you can access most of the functions, but for now, just touch Console. After a second, a Connect to your Xbox One option should appear near the top of the screen.

When touching, a list of available Xbox consoles to which you can connect should appear. Assuming yours is the only one on the list, tap the icon, called Xbox-SystemOS, unless you have renamed it, and then turn it on.

Voila! Your smartphone and your Xbox are now soulmates. Now you should be able to use your smartphone as a driver and keyboard, although this functionality is limited to the Xbox operating system. Currently there is no integration in the second screen within the game.

STEP 4: USE THE APP

Connecting is easy, but learning how to use the Xbox application requires a little time and understanding. Again, when you touch the three horizontal bars in the upper left corner of the application, the menu will appear, allowing you to view your profile and achievements, as well as the recorded clips and screenshots, and access the Xbox Store, among other things. . When you touch the icon of your avatar, your friend list will appear, while the icons next to it control the messages and notifications, respectively. A new icon, represented by three avatars, even allows you to start a party chat while traveling.

STEP 5: CONTROL YOUR XBOX ONE WITH THE APP

We are not completely sure why you would choose to control your Xbox One with your phone instead of a controller, but the Xbox application makes it possible. Once you have connected your Xbox One to your phone, you will see a small remote symbol in the lower right corner of the application screen. Select it and you will go to a screen mostly in black that has the four buttons on the face, as well as the start button, the view button and the menu button.

Now you can control your Xbox One by dragging your finger across the screen to select a tile, then press “A” in the center of the screen to confirm it. Will you ever use it? Probably not, but it’s an option!
